Marine Radios Handheld Type
Hand held marine radios provide a good back up for your fixed radio because they are completely independent of the boats power supply and main antenna. It stands a good chance of working even if the batteries are under water or the mast is hanging over the side. For everyday use - to discuss a rendezvous when cruising in company or to call a marina to ask about a vacant berth - it's a very convenient alternative and, for dinghies and day boats it may well be the only practical choice. Do not expect the same range as a fixed radio however. Instead of the 20 miles yacht to yacht or 40 miles yacht to shore you may only get 5 miles yacht to yacht.
